Description

Mount Kenya is Africa’s second highest mountain, and is unarguably the more enjoyable mountain to climb, with stunning views, glacial features and varied flora. There are several alternative routes on the mountain, each joining at the trekkers peak at Point Lenana (4985m).   The Sirimon – Chogoria route may not be the fastest way up and down the mountain but it undoubtedly offers up the mountain’s best features. Sirimon is the most popular ascent with fantastic glacial scenery and steady ascent rate. Chogoria is the most favored descend route with dramatic gorges, waterfalls and mountain tarns. Whilst the highlight of this trek is summiting Point Lenana t in time for sun-rise, both the ascent and descent offer rewarding trekking and scenery.
Note: The normal weather on Mt Kenya has clear mornings with mist from 10:00am and clear by evening. Early morning starts are the order of the day with a 2am start for the final ascent to Point Lenana, if you want to catch the sunrise.

Day 1

Today you will be picked from your Nairobi City Hotel at about 0600Hrs (latest) driving to Nanyuki where you will arrive at approximately 1000Hrs and enjoy a hearty lunch.  After lunch at approx. 1130Hrs, you will meet with guides / porters and depart for the Sirimon Park gate. Our Mountain trek starts from this point after a few formalities at the Gate, it will be an easy trek in the afternoon to help you acclimatize. Dinner at the Camp(3300m) in the high-altitude mountain cabins. By the end of the day we will have done 5 hours of walking.

Day 2

The day starts at 0800Hrs and will test your patience, endurance & determination. Ascend the Sirimon Track to Likii North Valley-below the subsidiary peaks of Teleki and Sendeyo - two ancient parasitic vents of the main peaks (3990m).  Climb out to MackindersCamp into Shiptons Cabins the of the Mackinder's Valley, just below the 3 main peaks of Batian, Lenana and Nelion (4,300m).  By the end of this day we shall have done about 8hrs of walking (Leisurely). Meals and overnight.

Day 3

We shall spend this day acclimatizing at the base camp. Climb to Oblong & Nanyuki tarn view-point. Time Permitting, descend further for a glimpse of the other side of the mountain with excellent views of Batian, Nelion & Point John not forgetting the Diamond collier a well as the Amphi theatre.  Meals at the Camp.
Overnight: Shiptons Camp.

Day 4

The day starts very early morning at approximately 0200Hrs, to allow you attempt reaching the Peak by Sunrise (Alpine ascent to the highest Peak -Pt. Lenana (4985m). This  entails four hours of stiff walking to the summit. This will be the most challenging bit of the Mt Trek and will require a strong mind to reach the summit. Upon reaching the peak, celebrate your achievement with the rest of the team, taking iconic pictures.  Afterward at approximately 0730 Hrs, start the descend back to Mintos Hut where we shall have breakfast. Later on, descend further to the Mt Kenya Meru Bandas’ where you will enjoy meals and overnight.

Day 5

The day starts at 0800Hrs after a sumptuous breakfast.  After breakfast depart Mt Kenya Meru Bandas, a 4 Hrs walk out of the Park via Chogoria. Kindly note that we shall trek the first 10 Km to be picked by Land rovers for the final 12 Kms out of the park), as you drive back to Nairobi, ending the thrilling climbing safaris.
